Mining | Lydia Burggraaf

With the common use of the Internet as a source for found images and video in contemporary art, I think there is a different form of appropriation bourgeoning that lacks the irreverence of movements such as PopArt and creates a new understanding of the image and its function in the development of the artwork. The exhibition includes four artists, Lyndsey Matchett (MLS series), Riaz Mehmood + Nadia Kurd (Baghdad 1001), and Mike Marcon (Home(scapes) and Terminal View). What I found particularly interesting while discussing this method of appropriation with the participating artists was the recurring themes of travel, locality, and home.
